It is safe to say that, Cricket is a religion in India, and World Cup is the biggest sport festival that comes after every 5 years with hopes and dreams, associated with it. Despite being the best team during the course of 2023 ODI World Cup, India lost the final to Australia, which abruptly ended the GOAT (greatest of all time) talks around the team, during its unbeaten runs throughout the tournament. The winning streak of 10 matches came to a halt at the finals, in spite of the efforts put together by the Indian Cricket team. Virat Kohli won the most centuries
The astounding statement made by Pat Cummins came true when he said, his team wanted the big crowd to go silent. The Australian cricket team went into their full form, no doubt, the fielding and bowling of the Australian cricketers proved to be their trump card. It seemed, the courage of the Indian cricketers begin to dismantle, when Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma got out. The Indian Cricket team managed to score 240. There was definitely a ray of hope for India in the second half of the match, because yet again, India had ace bowlers like Mohammad Shami. Then again, Travis Head was the Kryptonite, his sparkling knock of 137 led Australia to victory in the World Cup final. The tears in the eyes of captain of the 2023 squad Rohit Sharma, made everyone emotional; making us realize sport is a cruel thing, everyone sees the winning part, no one notices the losing part.
But what causes this bottling up of the team at the finals or semifinals, because in the previous 2019 ODI World Cup, India lost to New Zealand in the semifinals. After 2011, our Indian Cricket team had the glorious chance of lifting the World Cup trophy, and we lost it with the blink of an eye. It felt like 2023 World Cup was the repetition of 2003 World Cup. It was however an outstanding teamwork exhibited by the Indian team throughout the tournament. Despite not winning the trophy, the men in blue received admirable support from true cricket fans as well as our Prime minister.
